ENSURE REGULAR MEDICAL CHECK-UPS – BANIGO
Rivers State Deputy Governor, Dr. (Mrs.) Ipalibo Harry Banigo has stressed the need for the people of the State to ensure regular medical checkups to ascertain the status of their health.
Dr. Banigo stated this while speaking at a one-day Mental Health Awareness Programme organized by a Christian Non-Governmental Organization, Caywood Brown Foundation, at Elelenwo, Port Harcourt.
The Deputy Governor who was represented by her Special Assistant on Social Media and Research, Ms Uki Asemota, explained that regular check-ups are necessary to prompt appropriate medication.
Dr. Banigo described Mental Health as a critical ailment that could engender depression in the human body, stressing that the Mental Health Awareness campaign was organized to compliment the effort of the State Government’s drive towards bringing health care services to the door steps of the people.
Also speaking, the Keynote Speaker, Dr. Maymunah Kadiri revealed that more than 20 percent of Nigerians are afflicted with mental illness.
Dr. Kadiri who is the Mental Health Physician and Advocate Founder, Pinnacle Medicals Speak-out Initiative, described depression as an illness characterized by persistent sadness and loss of interest in activities.
Highlight of the programme was interactive/discussion session among participants at the Seminar.
