RSG Restates Zero Tolerance For Criminality …Says No Hiding Place For Cultists

The Rivers State Government has declared that its zero tolerance policy for kidnapping, cultism and other forms of criminal activities is still in force.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Conflict Resolution, Chief Okori K. Abelekum, who disclosed this in Iriebe while declaring open a trauma and leadership workshop, organised by the Nigerian Stability and Reconciliation Project (NSPP) for 57 former cult gang leaders from Gokana Local Government Area, also said that there will be no hiding place for unrepentant cultists in the state.

Abelekum said that the government was desirous of ensuring a conducive environment for investors with a view to creating employment opportunities for the youth in the state.

He described the theme of the workshop, “Trauma Healing and Dynamics on Christ Model of Leadership”, as apt, and urged the 57 former gang leaders to see Jesus Christ as the only option to reshape their lives.

Abelekum said that some projects flagged off by Governor Nyesom Wike during the just-concluded Golden Jubilee celebration was indication of the governor’s willingness to embark on human capital development.

Also speaking, the Special Adviser on Amnesty, Mr Ken Chinda, said that the government will use maximum force to clamp down on unrepentant cultists and kidnappers.

He thanked Rev Father Abel Agbulu of St Patrick’s Church, Bodo, for working tirelessly to ensure the success of the programme, and urged the participants to take the workshop seriously.

In his remarks, Chainman, Gokana Council of Traditional Rulers, Barisi Kpaama, advocated for attitudinal change, stressing that this was needed to bring about lasting peace in Gokana.

He urged other clergymen working in Ogoni to emulate the example of Father Abel Agbulu by initiating programmes that will change their communities for good.
Earlier in his welcome address, Rev Father Abel Agbulu, had said that those selected for the seminar where young men who had led cells and bands of gangs popularly known as cult groups across Gokana.

He said that the 57 former gang leaders had a followership of over 4,000 cultists, adding that their transformation will have a ripple effect on their supporters and followers back home.
