NAFEST2017: RIVERS STATE WINS BIG

The Rivers State Council of Arts and Culture under the Ministry of Culture and Tourism has performed credibly well in the just concluded 30^th National Festival of Arts and Culture with the theme:-

‘NIGERIAN PEACE AND UNITY… OUR PRIDE’

Rivers State emerged first in the Essay Competition at the festival and also won medals in other categories, placing the state in a better position at the festival.

The host of this year festival, Kaduna State took first in the Traditional Wrestling Category.

The Rivers State representatives used the festival to showcase the rich cultural heritage of the state as they were adorned in glamorous outfits to the admiration of fellow participants who had no option but to admire.

The Director General of the National Council of Arts and Culture Otunba Segun Runsewe in a part of his statements said “Showcasing our cultural heritage is a deliberate choice that we must all embrace and practice now and always.

It is obvious that since Hon. (Mrs) Tonye Briggs Oniyide took office as the Rivers State Honourable Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, the state has done well in the area of promoting its rich cultural heritage to the world.

She is indeed a boost to the good performance of the state at the festival.

Hon. Oniyide has also supported and organized Cultural Events in the state as the ministry is also doing good in boosting the entertainment industry of the state generally.

It is believed that the Rivers State Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, CON appointed a competent hand for the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in the person of Hon. (Mrs) Tonye Briggs Oniyide, which is one of the reasons she was reappointed.

Rivers State is to host the next Festival which will be the 31^st edition of the National Festival of Arts and Culture; NAFEST 2018. 

We also believe the Rivers State Government will give us a remarkable event come 2018.
